Each year people across America take the time to honor and thank our veterans. The tried and true tradition includes flags and parades to recognize and thank those who have served our country and defended our freedom. At PAM, we are grateful for this selfless service, both in the military and on the civilian front, with 10% of our workforce having served in the military.
Special Ops
One of the ways that we honor our veterans is through programs designed to help those who are ready to transition into civilian life. Honor Road is one such program. Organized through the Department of Labor, Honor Road offers transitioning military personnel the opportunity to qualify for a tax-free housing allowance up to $1900 as part of an apprenticeship. That is on top of PAM’s regular driver payment.
A second way that we support veterans who are transitioning to civilian life is through programs designed to secure veterans’ driving licenses for trucking (CDLs). Military drivers who have two or more years of experience can immediately begin driving after signing a Military Skills Test Waiver. For those veterans without military driving experience, we can help you get a CDL-A license using your GI Bill Benefits. From there, you will be enrolled in our apprenticeship program with a PAM Driver Mentor. All of this will qualify you for the tax-free VA stipend as well.
Special Perks
Another way we honor our veterans is through PAM’s Patriot Ride Fleet. Each branch of the military is proudly represented with unique artwork on the cab of the truck and is driven by a veteran of either the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines. These special drivers are called ambassadors as they serve their country in a different way. They are not only earning a paycheck, but are also honoring their fellow veterans as well.
Special People
We are pleased with the opportunities that PAM has to honor our veterans, but don’t take it from us. Here’s what some of our veteran team members have to say about working with PAM:
“Not everyone coming out of the military wants to be home on weekends. Some still have wanderlust and want to see the country. PAM gives you the opportunity to do that. When I first came back from the military I was ‘wound up’ a bit. It wasn’t until I became a driver on the open road I was able to collect my thoughts and get in touch with things.” – Steve Reeves, Veteran and Driver
